Joint Camp

Many of our patients have referred to the Center for Joint Replacement as “Joint Camp.” “Joint Camp” is unique. It is a dedicated center within Charleston Area Medical Center. 

Features of the “Joint Camp” program include:

• A comprehensive patient guide for you to follow from the time surgery is scheduled until three months post-surgery and beyond

• Nurses, therapists and patient-care technicians who specialize in the care of joint patients

• A joint program coordinator who coordinates pre-surgery care and discharge planning
  

• Emphasis on group activities as well as individual care
  

• A family member or friend educated to participate as a “coach” in the recovery process

• Occupational therapist to educate how assistive devices, joint protection and energy conservation techniques can be used during activities of daily living (ADLs), work and leisure activities

• Home care instructions
